Luna Loft

Originally a dark and dated city centre apartment, Luna Loft is a great example of how older properties can be entirely reinvented through spatial remodelling and modern aesthetics and become an Airbnb hotspot.

Expanding the visual space

Key to this project was opening up the upstairs mezzanine area by replacing the drywall enclosure with a glass balustrade. Not only does this immediately expand the visual space, it lets natural light fill the entire unit, shifting the energy from subdued to positive and uplifting.

Maximising the floor plan

The original unit already had a raised floor, but the irregular shape created pockets of unusable dead space. In a small apartment, every inch of space is valuable. To fix this, we extended the raised area and within it created a built-in dining nook (seen in the kitchen photos below), planter and steps to the balcony outside. This reduced the need for loose furnishings, significantly increasing the usable space in the property.

Smart kitchen design - not just more aesthetic but functionally superior

The original kitchen extended only part way along the back wall. We replaced it with a new one that extended the full length of the wall, increasing the number of cupboard sections from 1.25 to 3. We also moved the oven to the back wall and in its place created an open-filled breakfast bar, with the newly extended raised floor area fitted with a built-in seating nook for efficient use of space.

Bedroom designed for good sleep

We emphasise bedroom design that encourages healthy sleep patterns. In this case, the removal of the drywall enclosure removed a sense of entrapment that was felt when in the bedroom. A custom in-built boucle bed frame and headboard add to the cloud-like feeling when sleeping here. You also get the added benefit of natural sunlight flooding through the glass into the bedroom which no longer makes the space feel cramped, dark and uncomfortable.

Before

Bathroom modernisation

The original bathroom was made cramped by the bathtub, leading to an uncomfortable configuration with the basin and toliet directly opposite one another with minimal space between. We opted to remove the bath and use the full back wall for a hotel-sized bathroom vanity area.
